Skype Finally Hits Androids [with glitches]

Good News Tech-ers (with Android Mobile Phones),

You'll be please to know that today Skype released the much anticipated 'skype application' for Android mobile phones. However like many new applications on this device, Skype to was notified immediately by users of glitches and flaws in the app. As Charlie Brown from Cyber Shack dually noted "I discovered that it (skype) would not run on my Galaxy S unless I ran Froyo 2.2, which I was not". This is not the only problem with the newly developed skype app for Androids and other phones. Some other issues which users, like myself have noted include;
  • The Application Size
Skype is currently 15 megabytes and what may really sting for many users, is that skype cannot be moved to your SD card. Although, for 2.1 Android users this may not make much difference as you cannot move applications to your SD card anyway. However the fact that 2.2 users now float in the same boat as 2.1 users- may be abit upsetting for some.
  • Galaxy S Issues
Skype is beleived to have tested their app on HTC and Motorola phones, and while Skype says that they created an app which would work on other phones, it has been dually noted [thanks to Charlie Brown from Cyber Shack and various other users] that Samsungs Galaxy S owners are out of luck at the moment. This problem can also be clearly evident by multiple samsung user comments left on the Skype blog.
  • Application needs a minimum resolution of 480 x 320 pixels
This isn't a huge deal but  there are a few phones out there (for example the HTC Wildfire) that don’t have this mininum resolution, so if you have one of those phones, the app won’t work for you.
  • No Video Calling [yet]
 The sub-heading  practically speaks for itself, but verison 1.0 of skype does not feature video calling.  However you can be rest assured that skype will soon have this nailed down as well.

However placing these glitches aside, the skype features include;
  • Free skype-to-skype calls over Wi-Fi
  • Synchronise contacts between Skype and your address book and after synchronisation, place Skype calls directly from you address book.
  • Chat with skype contacts via your phone
  • Change the lanugage of skype (choose between over 15 languages)
